Thanks to the generosity of friends and supporters, moreover the family of Dr. Ron Anderson, we were blessed to establish on September 6, 2016 the Ron J. Anderson, M.D. Public Servant Leader Award.
The Inaugural 2016 Award and $1,000 was presented to Larry James, Executive Director of CitySquare, Dallas, on what would have been Dr. Anderson’s 70th birthday.
Named in honor of Dr. Anderson, one of our founders and beloved CEO of Parkland Hospital, the Ron J. Anderson, M.D. Public Servant Leader Award will be annually presented to a public servant leader exemplifying the hallmarks that defined the service, life and legacy of Dr. Ron Anderson – uncommon leadership with an unwavering commitment to serve Christ through serving others, especially the poor, with humility, compassion, integrity, vision, impeccable character and perseverance – reflecting the values of Christians in Public Service.
Dr. Ron Anderson dedicated over four decades of his life fighting for the poor, believing that all people, regardless of socio-economic status deserved dignity, respect and access to quality care. The renowned reputation of Parkland Hospital today as one of the leading public hospitals in the world, with recognized centers of excellence, is due in no small part to the dedication and lifetime work of Dr. Ron Anderson. He was a man of faith, a man of conviction, a man of uncommon valor – a servant.
In 2017 in addition to the Award, we will give the first of an annual scholarship to a student pursuing a career in public health or public service. The scholarship, as the Award, will be named and eventually endowed in the name of Dr. Ron J. Anderson.
Without his vision, unwavering support, belief in our mission and his guidance, Christians in Public Service would not have been. We thank God for the life and legacy of our brother, Ron J. Anderson, M.D. and we strive in all that we do, to live up to his expectation of us being an organization of excellence, compassion and one that honors our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
